Art work based on the play: I Claudia by Kristen Thomson

When choosing an artist for this new season at the Fritzi I immediately thought of Alex McMahon.  Alex just turned 18 and in keeping with the theme of the GCTC's season "Stages" the artists I chose for this years Fritzi are all of a "certain age".  Each of the artists are in the same age group as the play's main characters, reflecting different stages of their life as artists and people living in a cohort.

Alex McMahon studied art at Nepean High school with Professor Richard Miller and a cadre of artist friends whom he continues to work with. In the spring of 2007 Alex submitted his work to the Foyer Gallery's "Young at art 2007" where he won the Ottawa mixed media award and the Cube gallery award for best in show.  McMahon's art has been greatly inspired by many of the 1950's abstract expressionist artists such as Mark Rothko, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Jack Bush and Jackson Pollock.

Come to the opening reception on Thursday Sept. 11 from 5-7pm and meet one of Ottawa's new Young Guns. The Lorraine 'Fritzi' Yale Gallery

Reading of Murder Pattern by playwright Herman Voaden

"Murder Pattern" was based on an actual murder in Haliburton, Ontario, in 1912. Violet Kilpatrick, Voaden's fiancée, had taught the children of both the murdered man and those of his murderer in a small country school near Minden after the First World War. Voaden intended his play to create sympathy for the plight of isolated rural farming pioneers and to fuse actual historical characters and incidents with an underlying significance found in the beauty of nature and its endless cycles of life, death and rebirth.
