TRAVEL

Follow these tips for faster airport screening

Canadians travelling this winter should familiarize themselves with airport security screening rules and restrictions before their trip to avoid frustration and delays. Knowing what to do and what to pack can make the screening process easier and faster for everyone.

When packing for a trip:

1. Check www.catsa.gc.ca for lists of permitted and non-permitted items.

2. Place all liquids, gels and aerosols in checked baggage if possible. In your carry-on baggage, these items must be in containers of 100 ml or less, and placed into a 1 L clear plastic bag.

3. Laptops and gaming consoles should be easily accessible in your carry-on baggage.

At the airport:

1. Check CATSA's mobile site for last minute questions at m.catsa.gc.ca.

2. Remove all spare change, keys, cell phones, MP3s and metal objects from your pockets and place them into the bins or leave them in your carry-on baggage.

3. Take laptops out of their cases and put them in a bin for inspection.

4. Check all sports equipment and ensure sharp items are checked as they are not permitted in carry-on baggage.
