Explora Journeys Five-star boutique cruising that’s ideal for a special holiday with your kids and grandkids

Explora Journeys, the new cruise line from Swiss-based MSC Group, offers a unique experience that’s perfect for a deluxe multigenerational holiday all ages will enjoy and remember.

The Explora II, launched in September 2024 as the second cruise ship in Explora Journeys’ fleet, is a trip and a destination in itself. It features five heated pools, nine culinary experiences, 12 bars and lounges, along with just 461 suites. Destinations include the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Europe and North America’s east coast. Notably, the guest-to-staff ratio is 1.25 : 1.

This is not a typical cruise; Explora II is a European-inspired floating sanctuary. The ambience and amenities are apt to be unlike any you’ve come across before. There’s something to please everybody.

You can even go shopping on board. Boutiques showcase iconic brands and the offerings range from jewelry and watches to fragrances and apparel. There’s also an adults-only pool area, Helios Pool & Bar, along with other amenities that appeal to grownups, including a whiskey bar, live entertainment and a cutting-edge fitness facility with Technogym Artis equipment. An open-air fitness area overlooks the ocean.

The award-winning spa includes a salt cave, steam shower, sauna, ice fall, multi-sensory shower, hydrotherapy pool and more. It’s a wellness retreat, complete with heated stone loungers and an outdoor relaxation area with mesmerizing views. There are also 11 treatment rooms, as well as a menu full of treatments and services, from hair and nails to facials and massage.

Amenities in other areas of the ship include hot tubs, pools, daybeds, an art gallery, a casino and even a gelateria and creperie. You can grab a snack at the all-day European café and enjoy activities and events in the different lounges and social spaces.

If you’re travelling with your grandkids, there’s a dedicated space for youngsters aged six to 17 that’s home to state-of-the-art video games and VR consoles, foosball and pool tables, plus lots of board games. It’s open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Explora II’s private accommodations are remarkable, too. Thoughtfully designed and offering ocean-front views, they come in various sizes and configurations, from suites to residences.

It’s also worth noting that it never feels crowded or busy on Explora II. Service is attentive and personal. Staff members greet you by name, always with a smile.

As for the food, options include Italian cuisine at Anthology, Pan-Asian dishes at Sakura, a steakhouse experience at Marble & Co. Grill and Mediterranean flavours at Med Yacht Club. Emporium Marketplace, an all-day restaurant, offers sushi, seafood, pizza, pasta and more. Its buffet is terrific.

So is the whole Explora II adventure. From beginning to end, it’s a remarkable life experience you’ll want to share with your nearest and dearest. explorajourneys.com
