Elkhart Lake is a true hidden gem in Wisconsin. Known for its crystal-clear lake, beautiful natural surroundings and rich history, this destination offers something for everyone. During my visit, Elkhart Lake was named the third best lake in the country by USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. After experiencing it, I can certainly understand why.
Visitors can enjoy water sports, golf, hiking, cooking classes, pottery workshops, wellness experiences and automotive attractions. Whether you are seeking outdoor adventure, creative experiences or a relaxing getaway, Elkhart Lake provides a unique blend of recreation, culture and small-town appeal.
The Osthoff Resort
I stayed at The Osthoff Resort, a historical lakeside property established in the late 19th century and later rebuilt to preserve its architectural character while adding modern luxury. Its all-suite, condominium-style accommodations are spacious and comfortable.
The property overlooks Elkhart Lake, offering beautiful waterfront views. My suite included a private balcony facing the lake, which made the stay even more pleasurable. The combination of historical charm, upscale amenities and spectacular lake views creates a wonderful balance between comfort and character.
Aspira Spa
Located within The Osthoff Resort, Aspira Spa immediately welcomed me with its peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The lounge area is stunning and tranquil.
One of the highlights of my visit was the salt room, a quiet space designed for wellness. As I breathed in the salt-infused air, I learned about the minerals found in salt, including calcium, potassium, magnesium and iodine. The experience left me feeling calm and rejuvenated.
I also enjoyed the signature Aspira Chroma Lift Facial; it was incredible. The treatment was both relaxing and revitalizing, leaving my skin feeling refreshed and renewed.
Vintage
In the village itself, you’ll want to visit Vintage, a specialty wine and fine foods shop owned and operated by an award-winning sommelier. Vintage’s Wine-O-Matic Wine Lounge is an innovative self-serve wine tasting system that lets you sample a rotating selection of wines from around the world. You can enjoy a taste, half glass or full glass, making it easy to discover new favourites.
Vintage also offers Wisconsin artisan cheeses and chocolates, craft beers, premium spirits, gourmet foods, wine accessories and unique gifts.
Throttlestop Car & Cycle Concierge
Car enthusiasts will love Throttlestop Car & Cycle Concierge. I had a great time seeing everything from classic automobiles to modern sports cars and motorcycles.
Road America
Road America was one of the biggest surprises of my trip. This legendary motorsports destination—with its four-mile, 14-turn road circuit—has a rich history and offers visitors a wide variety of thrilling experiences.
I tried both go-karting and the off-road terrain, which were incredibly exciting. To top it all off, the staff surprised us with rides in their Corvettes! Unforgettable.
It’s notable that Road America has a welcoming, international vibe. I especially enjoyed seeing Canadian favourites such as poutine and Molson Canadian beer on the menu, along with Canadian race car drivers participating in many events.
Enjoy the Lake
The beach offers a variety of water sports, including paddleboarding and kayaking. I went paddleboarding and it was an incredible experience. The lake is stunning—calm, crystal clear and perfect for enjoying the beautiful scenery. Guests can also take a pontoon tour.
Golf, Hiking and Dining
Quit Qui Oc Golf Club & Restaurant is a scenic, family-owned golf destination featuring a beautifully maintained 27-hole course. Set among rolling hills and mature trees, the course offers a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. The clubhouse restaurant is also a welcoming spot to enjoy a meal.
Nature lovers should explore the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. Wisconsin is home to some of the best examples of landscapes shaped by glaciers during the last Ice Age. My hike was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and history.
For dining, Concourse Restaurant & Lounge at The Osthoff offers spectacular views of Elkhart Lake. The food and service were amazing.
Lake Street Café, located in the heart of Elkhart Lake, offers a relaxed yet upscale atmosphere with wood-fired pizzas, steaks, fresh seafood and seasonal dishes.
Siebkens Resort
I also toured historic Siebkens Resort, founded in 1916 by Laura and Herman Siebken. The resort combines history, hospitality and lakeside recreation, with accommodations, a private beach and swimming pool.
We ended our stay with dinner at PAM’s Dining Room & Cocktail Bar, followed by a bonfire on the beach and live music—a perfect ending to an unforgettable visit.
Elkhart Lake is a destination I will definitely revisit, and one I would love to experience with my children.
